Godfrey's serves up gourmet popcorn in Covent Garden

London's love of a single-item shop shows no signs of going away. And joining the ranks of places focused on crumble (Humble Crumble) or biscuits (The Biscuiteers) is a brand new shop in Covent Garden devoted to popcorn.
Godfrey's, which opened just under a month ago on Tavistock Street just off the Piazza, is the brainchild of three friends, director Rob Smith and co-founders Luke Godfrey and Rachel Cumming. Luke, as you might imagine, has the origin story for the business. It's named after his grandfather Godfrey who apparently loved the stuff so much that he started making his own homemade popcorn which his family loved.
As for the popcorn, the options at Godfrey's are split into classics and specials. The former includes plain buttered, salted, cheddar cheese and caramel corn. For the launch the two specials are Biscoff crisp and a caramel, salted pretzel and white chocolate version we must admit does sound good.
It's a very retro-looking operation, serving Coke in glass bottles along with cans of Dr Pepper. There's also merch on sale too. As you might imagine, "small-batch hand-crafted" popcorn doesn't come cheap with the signature caramel corn a hefty £5.50 for a regular bag. Expect to see this all over your FYP in the coming weeks.
